FERTILIZER APPLICATION IN MAIZE

√ Maize's fertilizer requirements depend on the soil fertility and yield target. The two most important nutrients for maize are nitrogen and phosphorous, but it also requires potassium and zinc in small quantities.
🟢When_To_Apply
√ Apply basal fertilizer when planting or within seven days after germination. You can top dress with urea or calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) within the first three weeks after germination.
🟢How_Much_To_Apply
√ Apply 50 kg per acre of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) or NPK fertilizer at planting time. For top dressing, apply 50 kg per acre of urea or CAN in low rainfall areas.
🟢How_To_Apply
√ Apply fertilizer at the base of each plant in a circular way or along the row 5 cm away from the plants.
🟢What_To_Apply
√ The most common basal dressing fertilizer for maize is 23:21:0+4S. You can also consider manure, which is a good source of nutrients and has other benefits for soils.
